Caboose Kids program to feature High Country Performing Arts Academy

WEST JEFFERSON — Let’s get moving with High Country Performing Arts Academy for Caboose Kids this Saturday, June 13, from 10–11 a.m. at Connie the Caboose in the Backstreet Park in West Jefferson.

This family enrichment and entertainment program is free and open to kids ages 3–12 years. The program will be introduced and dismissed by a conductor (volunteer from the Ashe County Little Theatre) and each sponsor will offer their own handouts or take-aways for the children. You will have the opportunity each program to sign up Ashe County children, birth to age five, with Imagination Ashe to receive books by mail monthly for free.

To help ensure safety, all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. In case of rain, the program that Saturday will be canceled. Tune in to 580 WKSK/93.5 FM for these announcements.

Upcoming Caboose Kids schedule

Coloring pages were available at three participating businesses: Red Dog Bar & Bistro, Bobby D's, and Great Southern Gothic. Children of all ages were invited to color their favorite Shrek themed page and submit their masterpiece for a chance to win a special prize.

Each participating business selected one winning entry from the submissions they received. The winner at each location was awarded a free ticket to attend our production of Shrek the Musical, giving them the opportunity to see their favorite characters come to life on stage.

In addition, each participating business generously awarded a $25 gift card to their selected winner, making the experience even more exciting for our young artists.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Red Dog, Bobby D's, and Great Southern Gothic for partnering with us and helping make this contest such a success. Community support from local businesses plays an important role in bringing arts opportunities to families throughout Ashe County.

Most importantly, thank you to all of the children who participated. We loved seeing the creativity, imagination, and enthusiasm that each coloring page displayed. Choosing winners was no easy task, and every participant should be proud of their work.

Congratulations to our winners, and we look forward to seeing everyone at Shrek the Musical!
